The Triiodothyronine (T3) test is performed to assess how well the thyroid gland is functioning. Measuring Free T3 (FT3) along with Free T4 (FT4) increases the accuracy and sensitivity in detecting thyroid-related disorders. In many cases, checking only total T3 and T4 levels may not be sufficient to arrive at a clear diagnosis. Hence, FT3 and FT4 estimation helps doctors better evaluate thyroid dysfunction.
