What is Testosterone?

Testosterone is a C-19 steroid hormone produced mainly by the testes and adrenal glands in men, and by the ovaries in women. Measuring testosterone levels helps in the clinical evaluation of conditions such as hypogonadism in males and hyperandrogenism in females.

In the bloodstream, testosterone exists mostly in a protein-bound form. Around 60–80% is bound to sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), while the remaining portion binds to albumin and cortisol-binding globulin. Only 1–2% of testosterone remains unbound, known as free testosterone, which is the biologically active form.

The Free Testosterone test is useful in assessing infertility, PCOD/PCOS in women, and identifying disorders or damage affecting the ovaries, testes, adrenal glands, or pituitary gland. This test plays an important role in evaluating hormonal balance and reproductive health.

The Free Testosterone test is available at an affordable price with the convenience of home sample collection.
